    Remember...

June 8th is the last day to turn in any work. If you are missing anything, get it done.

  • End of Semester Notices…

As this point, all remaining assignments have been posted and are available for you to work on for my class. Points to be aware of:

  • June 8th is the cut-off for all work, except for the final.
  • The final will be on June 11th
    • Starting at 8:10
    • Ending at 10:15
    • You must submit by the ending time
    • Open resource – use any reference you want
    • Multiple attempts – you will receive the highest grade of multiple attempts
    • Cooperation grade will be based on the following:
      • E - Keeps up with assignment postings (checks each assignment that is posted, and completes the assignment)
      • S - Checks all assignments that have been posted, but not necessarily completes all assignments
      • U - Checks less than 50% of the assignments posted
      • Work Habits grade will be based on the following:
        • E - Completes all assignments since the change to distance learning
        • S - Completes less than 75% of the posted assignments
        • U - Completes fewer than 50% of the assignments

Late submissions for either class work, or the final will not be accepted after the above cut-off dates.

  • Grading Period Closed...

I've graded all work that was turned in by 11:59 PM Friday for the 15 week progress report. (I had stated that 3:15 PM was the cut off, but extended it a bit and graded it the next morning.)

I will resume grading on Wednesday. We are now in the final stretch of the school year and urge you to complete the outstanding work, or at the very least, at least check out the assignments to help improve your cooperation marks.

  • 15 Week Grades…

May 8th will be the cutoff for my grades that will post to the 15week progress report. Note that the following two comments will be used for students who either have a “D”, or who have not completed the majority of the assignments since we have changed to distance learning: “In danger of not meeting proficiency” or “In danger of not meeting proficiency and will automatically be enrolled in summer school.”

Work posted with a due date of May 8th and earlier will be used for calculating grades and comments. If you need any assistance, please contact me.

  • Posted Grades...

I wanted to wait until we had our department meetings today before posting about the next report card. The grades that currently show, are the grades that will be reported on the next progress report. At this point, I don’t know about the distribution of these reports. The last I have heard is that the district is working on a plan to print and distribute them from local offices.

I did the grading (somewhat) early this morning, and posted at that time. I will again resume grading new work this Friday, April 17th.

If you have any questions in the meantime, please contact me.

  • Grades, Grading, Schedule...

This is just a reminder that I will be finalizing grades on Monday, April 13th. My basic grading guidelines are:

Worked missed since we have started distance learning will be marked Incomplete, which does not hurt your grade.

  • You will receive the higher of your current grade, or your grade on March 13th.
  • For the coming week:
  • I will have “office hours” of 2:00 -3:00PM Monday through Friday.
  • I will be available during the normally scheduled class time for that particular day.

To contact me:

  • Send a message through Schoology (click on the envelope icon, and enter my name).
  • Email: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
  • Phone: 805.768.4229 (Google Voice #)

I have reduced the requirements for work completion, so it should be easier, and take less time. No IDE is needed for the programming classes, and only tow assignments per week, one of which is a writing assignment which doesn’t require any programming knowledge. (Doing just the Current Events will raise your grade percentage.)

  • Grading Reminder & Spring Break…

First, enjoy spring break, but keep school in mind as assignments will resume shortly.

Grades: Just a reminder that I must post the 10-week grades by April 14th, so if you are missing any assignments, you have a chance to turn them in while classes have paused. I will remain available for help via email or Schoology Message during Spring Break. Please not the following changes to my grading:

  • Only assignments prior to the campus closing will definitely count for the 10-week grade.
  • Assignments with a due date past March 13th, will count only if completed.
    • If the newer assignments are not completed, they will be marked as “Incomplete”.
    • Incomplete marks do not negatively impact (lower) the grade.
    • You will receive the higher letter grade based on March 13th, or April 13th.
    • Lessons with a due date after March 13th only require the exercises to be completed.
      • Projects will count as extra credit.
      • If you are unable to type the answers to the exercise questions, write the answers out, snap a photo with your phone, and upload the image.

I will have a special extra credit assignment that I will post sometime between Monday and Wednesday next week, with a hard due date of April 13th. It will be a very simple extra credit assignment.

Remember to contact me if you have any questions.

  • Changes to Lesson 23...

Complete and upload the exercises, we'll revisit the project after Spring Break.

    Office Hours…

For the week of March 30th, each teacher will be maintaining Office Hours, while we are attending webinars and having various virtual meetings. Each teacher will have their own set of hours to maintain. When we return from Spring Break, we will likely have other changes that will be determined this coming week. My hours will be as follows:

    • Monday, March 30th: 9:00 – 10:00 AM
    • Wednesday, April 1st: 10:00 – 11:00 AM
    • Thursday, April 2nd: 1:00 – 2:00 PM

I will try to respond quickly outside of those hours, but during the normal school day for this week, there are many meetings and trainings scheduled, so my response may be slower than normal.

  • Schoology Glitch...

I just discovered, with the help of a parent, that the old posts to this section are not visible. I have not been able to fix the problem, so in the mean time, I have posted them elsewhere. Please visit: Intro News to see the current, and past updates for this period.

There are many important items including:

    • How to get and install the software
    • An alternate, online version of Eclipse.

Note that all of the assignment postings have been functional, so for assignments that didn't need the IDE, there isn't an excuse for not having completed that work.

  • Special Schedule...

This coming Friday, March 27th, I will be unavailable during most of the school day as there is an all day virtual training scheduled for teachers. I will however, be available before and after the meeting. Next week, because of additional meetings course meeting times will also be modified, to be announced later.

  • A Quick Announcement...

Due to a combination of restrictions, and response, I will not be conducting Zoom sessions at this time. I am, available by email, and Schoology messaging. I will be at my computer during the normally scheduled times for you period. Outside of your normal class time, I will probably be available. So give the work a try, and if you need assistance, drop me a message....

  • Video Conference...

On Monday, I'll post a link for a live video conference to occur from 8:30 to 9:00 PM. I'll be available to answer questions, and hopefully I have the answers. Just stop in and say HI to have 5 points added the first assignment due next week.

George Burdo is inviting you to a scheduled Zoom meeting.

  • On Line IDE Found...
I've located an online version of the Eclipse IDE. Check the attached document for the basic instructions. After some quick testing, the main difference I've found is that the right click menu is generally not available. The attached document has more details, including the link to the website.
